Teaching Objective

  • To bring about a familiarity with the entire drum set
  • I teach "by ear" which entails learning full beats, fills, and song structure without the use of a book
  • I jump straight in to full drum patterns right from the start, designed to get you "jamming" as soon as possible
  • I play guitar and bass along with the student, giving you the big picture of what it's like to be a musician
  • To teach "intuitive playing" within the student's desired genre(s)
  • To convey basic improvisational skills

Style

Mostly rock, but able to teach a wide variety of styles

Expectations

Students will be expected to listen attentively during lessons and to ask as many questions as necessary.

Practice is mandatory for learning these skills, and I've developed my own method for writing out drum beats so the student can practice from take home sheets.
