All Aspects of Guitar Playing Special Emphasis on Performing and Songwriting
Beginning to Intermediate $25 per half hour I’m a rock, blues, country and jazz guitar player with 40+ years of experience playing in bands on stage and recording. I was lead guitar (’71-’77) for the English group, The Troggs (“Wild Thing”), toured with them worldwide and performed on NBC’s “Saturday Night Special.” I’ve played continuously in working bands since I began playing guitar at age 16.
I’ve done many professional recording sessions for albums with my own working bands, as well as adding tracks on albums for other artists with diverse styles, including punk, traditional jazz, fusion, and metal.
I’ve written, published and recorded many original songs and belong to PRS and PPL, the English organizations that collect and distribute royalties.
I’m currently in 2 bands - a classic rock band based in Los Angeles and a local blues/rock band.
I share my “trade secrets” with each student from the first lesson. My students’ skills typically accelerate at a very fast pace. I teach beginner students to play songs from the first lesson. For more advanced players, I’ll show you shortcuts to sounding great with more ease and developing your own style. I’ll help you read music if you wish, but you’ll also learn the fundamentals of “ear playing” which is essential to playing well with a live band. You’ll learn how a song is constructed, how to add “hooks” to create interest and build a “groove” to connect with an audience.
I encourage each of my students to form a band with friends or join an existing band as soon as possible. I’ll help you develop the skills and confidence to perform on stage with a band to entertain an audience. And have a blast while doing it.
Whether your goal is to seriously build a career as a performer or songwriter, or just to have fun, my lessons will move you toward your goal.
My lessons include: Guitar FUNdamentals - jump start your playing skills with easy-to-learn concepts Band FUNdamentals - how to work with other players and connect with audience How to develop solo techniques and create your own signature style of playing Song structure - how to learn and arrange songs Song writing - how to create original material | |
