| Mabrie Ormes, a professional Chico artist and prize-winning painter, created the beautiful mural on a wall of the Music Connection, and we have several of her works on sale in the store.
Much of her current work is music-inspired, with jazz as the focus. She makes gestural drawings during performances and carries them back to the studio, where she transfers them to watercolor paper. At that point, she says, the work becomes "an exploration of how color, measured in hue, shape and rhythm, can imitate music measured in tone, timbre and time." She plays jazz as she makes her creations.
Mabrie says: "I love paint. Each day in the studio I make something out of nothing: a piece of paper, paint and a brush. I spend each day swimming in a sea of intuitive choices. The work is a kind of play, engrossing and pleasurable."
