I have played guitar most of my life and started teaching private lessons in 2006. My experience includes touring the U.S. and Europe in the metal band Armed for Apocalypse, as well as playing regionally and locally in various bands and ensembles across many genres. Most recently, I have played Americana/folk music under the name Lish Bills and heavy music in Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy.
My approach to teaching guitar is somewhat holistic, focusing on universal aspects of the instrument that can be applied to any genre. I use this approach differently with different ages and skill levels, and lessons are always tailored specifically to the student’s needs and goals.
Specific topics covered could include (but are not limited to):
- Beginning technique
- Music theory
- Applied/practical music theory (through the C.A.G.E.D. system)
- Intermediate/advanced technique
- Songwriting
- Genre-specific study (rock/heavy metal, classical, jazz, folk, etc.)
- Singing while playing
- Reading music
- Ear training
Lessons take place once a week at The Music Connection.
